Description
A series of reports (1882 – 1986) produced by successive South African governments. These publications, along with the South African Censuses collection, provide statistics and time-series data on a range of topics, including demographics, education, employment, housing, industry, marital conditions and public health, as well as insight into the policies of successive South African governments before and after independence from British rule.
Content warning
There is material within this collection which contains racist, ableist and colonialist language and ideas, which reflect the historical and social context in which it was produced. Racial categorisation used in the censuses is particularly problematic and you will encounter terminology in the reports which is no longer acceptable.
