Description
In May 1926 the General Strike was called by the Trades Union Congress. This resulted in a major nationwide work stoppage, which had been called in support of coal miners who faced wage cuts and longer working hours. The strike lasted nine days, and involved millions of workers across many industries, bringing much of the country to a standstill. LSE Library actively collected material in relation to the strike while it was occurring in the form of ephemera, TUC and government publications as well as press cuttings from local, national and international press. The following collection contains a selection of some of this material.
